About AWEC:

AWEC is a non-political, non-profit, woman-headed national organization established in 1991 by a group of educated Afghan women in exile, who rallied together to address the lack of facilities for Afghan refugees in Islamabad and eventually Peshawar, in Pakistan. AWEC has always been involved in advocacy and awareness-raising for women and children’s rights while providing services to those who frequently fall through safety nets. In recent years, one of AWEC’s core activities has been to support women through mobilizing Afghans, from local communities to political elites, towards the goal of reducing and eventually eliminate violence and increase women participation in home, communities and society in large.

Job Description:

Goal

The goal of this Goldozi Master Trainers Course is to create dynamic facilitators capable of guiding and training the lead entrepreneurs to:1) enhance their technical production,2) improve production cycle scheduling, management and sales of hand-embroidered goods, and 3) complete the Goldozi Certificate Program and apply their newly honed skills to achieve the project goals of increasing employment opportunities, especially for Afghan women, and export sales.

Project Summary

With economic growth as the overarching goal, TheGoldozi Project aims to create 15,500 new and better jobs in the embroidered products value chain, primarily for women, in Afghanistan. In addition, Goldozi will create jobs for 500 lead entrepreneurs (LEs), each of whom will promote, facilitate, maintain, and coach networks of up to 30 women embroiderers (WEs) on technical, business, financial, and sales matters.The project will enhance their technical and basic business; design, quality control skills and improve their ability to expand market access and sales. To meet that requirement, the Master Trainers will build the capacity of the lead entrepreneurs to work with women embroiderers and producer groups to supply quality, hand-embroidered goods for local, regional and international markets.

More specifically, Goldozi Master Trainers will be critical to achieving the following over the life of the Project:

Creating a class of trained and certified, mostly female, LEs who will gain skills to access accurate market information, and connect women embroiderers to input suppliers, retail, wholesale, and export markets, as well as develop relationships with other actors throughout the value chain.
Building the capacity of LEs in basic business management, market-readiness skills, as well as costing and pricing, order management, negotiations, mobile technology, and design and quality control. These skills will enable LEs toexpand their market access and build a compelling sales strategy, as well as development leadership and networking skills to establish relationships with commercial actors within the value chain.
Enhancing the technical skills of WEs to improve the quality of their products and increase their productivity levelsas a result of the GCP training by MTs.

Establishing a Goldozi brand that promotes the ethical and authentic production of Afghan embroidered products made by women. This brand identity for Goldozi-supported embroidery products will help to foster strategic market linkages to support increased market access, trade promotion, and export readiness of high-qualityAfghan Hand-Embroidered Products (HEP).
Creating jobs for LEs in the HEP value chain and strengthen the viability of women to serve in these positions, thereby increasing their incomes and the incomes earned by WEs.
To accomplish these goals, Master Trainers will facilitate a training program for lead entrepreneurs to complete the Goldozi Certificate Program Certificate (GCP). The GCP will be conducted in three-phases: Phase I: basic business (48 hours); Phase II design, quality control and finance (32 hours); and Phase III business development (32 hours). The one-monththeoretical classroom sessions will be followed by a one-month field practicum. Refresher trainings, the use of an innovative mobile application, and family forums to sensitize family members to the value of supporting a female wage earner are also features of the GCP. As a result, LEs should be able to earn a living through this work, and the WEs they support should earn increased income.

Master Trainer Scope of Work

In order to accomplish the overall project goal, as well as the goal of professionalizing the industry through lead entrepreneur skills upgrading and field practice, Master Trainers will have the requisite education;  technical, entrepreneurial & interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, ability to travel, as well as experience in training/facilitationusing interactive instruction methodologies.

Training Objectives

To ensure the Goldozi Certificate Program (GCP) accomplishes the objectives of LE training to:

Build the capacity of the LEs through guidance and training to enhance their technical production,
Improve LE production cycle scheduling and management to receive orders from women embroiders compliant with order requirements and on time
Ensure the designs are in demand and of the highest quality
Market and sell embroidered products to rural shopkeepers, as well as wholesale and/or retail outlets in major commercial cities and abroad,
Encourage creativity, new designs and new product development to be competitive
Introduce microfinance and technology as ways to grow their businesses, as appropriate
Build relationships with market actors and monitor progress to promote the Goldozi Brand.

Master trainers much be technically competent, knowledgeable of interactive instruction, flexible, culturally sensitive and willing to travel about the country.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

Business Master Trainers

Master Trainers must be female and meet the following criteria:

A recognized university bachelor’s degree in education, business, or a related field
A minimum of three years’ experience in the fields of education, facilitation and/or training
Knowledge of and competence in business, technical, interpersonal and financial skills
Skill as a facilitator/resource person to empower others rather than a teacher
Experience in interactive instruction to create a positive, learner centered training environment and communicate effective, dynamic presentations in the classroom
Ability to assess the knowledge of the group and gauge module presentations accordingly
Effective classroom management techniques, such as managing participants of various educational levels, managing classroom challenges, and creating a positive learning environment
Capacity to evaluate the application of the theoretical knowledge during the practicum

Design Master Trainer

Master Trainers must be female and meet the following criteria:

A recognized university bachelor’s degree in education, business, design, fine arts, fashion or a related field
A minimum of three years’ experience in the fields of education, facilitation and/or training in the areas of design: fashion, product development, design communication, interior design, graphic design, etc.…
Knowledge of and competence in designresearch, business, technical, interpersonal and design communication skills
Ability to introduce new, innovative fashiontrends including designs, colors, fabrics, threads and products
Skill as a facilitator/resource person to empower others rather than a teacher
Experience in interactive instruction to complement the business master trainer and inspire creative, innovative designs using traditional embroidery on contemporary products
Ability to assess the artistic talent of the WEs and producer groups to be able to build their capacity and creativity as well as their self confidence
Effective classroom management techniques, such as managing participants of various educational levels, managing classroom challenges, and creating a positive learning environment
Capacity to evaluate the application of design creativity to produce new innovative and marketable products
