The Information Assistant for Content Development is the primary person responsible for developing, recommending, and creating a wide range of original written and digital products in English and Dari for use by the U.S. Embassy. Designs and implements digital outreach campaigns based on Mission goals and objectives. Maintains active knowledge of U.S. policies and Mission activities in order to recommend and design campaigns that support Mission goals. In consultation with the information Officer, independently drafts original press releases, statements, opinion editorials, scripts, and other material for distribution to media, government contacts, and on various social media platforms in both English and Dari. Develops and maintains contacts with media, government, and communications professionals. Formats, edits, posts, and deletes content in order to communicate the Mission’s policies, programs, and activities to the public. Ensures that information published on the Embassy website and social media platforms is current, relevant, and accurate. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements: Bachelors degree in journalism, international relations, English, liberal arts, social sciences, or communications is required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years’ experience progressive experience as social media manager, media, journalism, public affairs, editor, writer, or in communications with the Afghan government, international mission or NGOs is required.
LANGUAGE: English Level 4, Dari Level 4, Pashto Level 2 is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Advanced knowledge of Department of State regulations, procedures, and guidelines in relation to social media content creation. Advanced knowledge of U.S. Mission priorities and goals. Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications and internet navigation. Knowledge of and fluency in multiple social media platforms. Experience programming branding campaigns, high level of creativity, understanding of metrics in measuring engagement. Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to create original documents and edit and adapt existing resources. Must have basic familiarity with digital SLR cameras and the principles of photography. Thorough knowledge of Afghanistan’s political, economic, social, and educational structures and cultural institutions; and an understanding of U.S. society, culture, and politics.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have excellent organization and interpersonal skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks efficiently and follow guidance easily. Must have the ability to follow up on program details independently. Must have the ability to draft official products in English, and tailor products to audiences via formal and informal communications. Must demonstrate that he/she can work well under pressure and deadlines, be reliable, create and follow schedules, and meet and anticipate deadlines. Must possess problem solving skills related to promoting U.S. programs and policies.
