Job Description:

SUMMARY OF KEY FUNCTIONS

 

The Health Education Officer is obliged to provide trainings, workshops and awareness facility about COVID -19 prevention, sign and symptoms, refer, reproductive, maternal, neonatal and child health for Community health workers (CHWs)
Supervise and follow-up the CHWs activities at the targeted communities including provision of health education and services during home visits as well as in the health posts
Build a liaison with MCH and other programs and stakeholders in the area relevant to women, neonates health and COVID-19
Establishment and capacity building of the Health Shuras, and Family Health Action Groups (FHAGs), elders, Mula, and associations
She is responsible to interacts with communities and community leaders to identify health problems and facilitate community mobilization for improved decision making system so that communities are empowered and self-sustained.
Support frontline health workers to continue critical health services including SRH services
Conduct monthly CHWs meeting
Preparing monthly action plan for frontline health workers and follow up the action plan
Distributions of PPE kit to frontline health workers according to the WHO and MoPH standards
Any other task assigned by supervisor.

 

 

KEY RELATIONS

Reports to: field supervisor
Collaborates with Abbott Project Team and field staff
Actively contributes to Project Team Meetings, to ensure that the project interventions are implemented in effective and efficient manner and the project goal and objectives are met

 

KEY RESULT EXPECTED

Conduct training for CHWS and communities

Health Education Officer is responsible for preparation of teaching materials and handouts for Community health workers and other health providers of health facilities staff if required
Delivers appropriate training sessions making use of acceptable teaching methods and materials.
Conduct regular supportive monitoring/supervision of health post and health facilities in target are
Design pre and posttest questionnaire for the teaching topics and provide feedback and report.
Train CHWs on surveillance form for COVID-19
Distribution of IEC of COVID-19 material to CHWs and communities

Supervision and Support of the Community Health Services by CHWS

Supervise the activities of the frontline health workers at community and preform spot antenatal and postpartum visits to check on mother and newborn health and provide counseling on feeding and baby care.
Supervise frontline health worker to perform community-based health and SRH in emergency services and provide core medical equipment kits as per the MoPH standards
Regular support to CHWs to enable them to conduct community mapping, collect required as per their JDs and to provide feedback to CHWs on their performance
Tracking the referral cases of SHR, COVID-19 by CHWs to target health facilities
Conducting training to CHWs  and health promoter according to the MoPH standard guideline,

Establishment of health post

Facilitate establishment of health post through community participation in the community.
Sharing the project plan and objective to the target communities
Establishment and straightening of referral system from community to health facilities
Supply and equip health post according to MoPH standard

Other relevant tasks

Support for quarterly supply of health post health promoter according to MoPH guideline
Support project team for completion of other interventions at the targeted communities
Generate Health Management Information (HMIS) report as per the format provided by Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) of Afghanistan
Collect and check the relevant data from the health posts and submit it to the field supervisor
Participate in the project team meetings to ensure that the project interventions are implemented as per the project plan
Assists Training Supervisor and Community Mobilization Supervisor in the relevant tasks as needed

 

 

Job Requirements:

COMPETENCE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Work enthusiastically and with patient
Culturally flexibility and respect multi-cultural environment

Skills and Experience:

Deep knowledge of the community health services conducted by CHWs
Excellent training and facilitation and community mobilization skills
Having a deep knowledge of Afghan traditions and cultural norms
Ability and willingness to work at the communities
Excellent spoken /written Dari and Pushto
Ability to review and monitor activity and record outcomes and learning
English language and computer skill would be a preference.

 

Education and working experience

Degree in Social Science or Diploma from medical institutions-at lease 14th grade graduate with minimum 5 years’ experience of health education and community mobilization

 

Languages Skills:

Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement. English Language skills is a plus point
