Action Aid started its work in Afghanistan in 2002. In 2006, Action aid Afghanistan committed itself to long term work with poor and excluded sections of the society through the human rights based development approach. The new country strategy for Afghanistan titled ‘Empowering People to End Poverty for the period 2012-2017 focuses in ending violence against women and girls; improving resilient food security; protecting children; promoting girl child education and advancing grassroots democratic governance. Women and girls’ needs are central to all of Action Aid’s work. Program operations are spread over the provinces of Bamyan, Jawzjan, Balkh, Kabul and Herat impacting lives of over 300,000 people. The country office is located in Kabul. Around 180 staff including technical experts and sector specialists are contributing to realizing our mission in the country. Job Description:

Administer and monitor the financial system in order to ensure that the project finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner

Main Activities:

  • Assist in the development of project work plan
  • Assist in the development of the project budget
  • Monitor project budget in terms of expenditures according to the work plan;
  • Implement financial policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain cash controls
  • Establish, maintain and reconcile the general ledger
  • Monitor cash reserves and investments
  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements
  • Establish and maintain supplier accounts
  • Processes supplier invoices
  • Maintain the purchase order system
  • Ensure data is entered into the system
  • Issue cheques for all accounts due
  • Ensure security for all credit cards and verify charges
  • Ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the computerized accounting system
  • Prepare income statements
  • Prepare balance sheets
  • Prepare monthly financial statements & reports
  • Prepare quarterly reports and report on variances
  • Assist with the annual audit
  • Maintain the computerized accounting system
  • Maintain financial files and records

Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems in order to ensure complete and accurate records of all project moneys

Main Activities:

  • Ensure the safeguarding of project funds
  • Issue, code and authorize purchase orders
  • Reconcile the accounts payable
  • Prepare journal summaries
  • Reconcile the accounts receivable
  • Compile source documents
  • Issue receipts
  • Reconcile weekly, monthly and annual deposits

Undertake other related duties that the supervisor may deem necessary. This may include field visits.

Job Requirements:

  • BBA degree in Accounting, Finance or Management
  • Experience of more than 1 year in Financial management;
  • Ability to interpret financial information and produce finance reports
  • High level of integrity and professionalism
  • Trustworthy
  • Experience with excel and spreadsheets
